DAVE NELSONName: Dave Nelson

Hometown: Mead, NE

Service Technician

Years at PVE: 10

Dave knows the value of working hard and doing your best. In high school, Dave started his own custom hay operation in addition to working on his family’s farm. He started with a small square baler. As he grew his client base, he added a rake and a round baler. He took the business full-time after high school.

“With hay, the harder you work, the higher quality product you have, which can bring a premium price,” Dave explained. “That’s why I enjoy haying. You’re rewarded for your hard work.”

Five years later, Dave decided to add another option to his career path. He explored the John Deere Tech program, but a long wait list altered his plans. Instead, he completed his degree in motorcycle technology through Southeast Community College. The degree helped him get started as a service technician. Eventually, he began his Platte Valley story in the turf and small engine service bay. When his current position opened, Dave transitioned to working on ag equipment.

“I enjoy the relationship when working with a customer,” Dave said. “Our customers are really good people and it’s fun to work on their equipment.”

While the work is challenging, Dave believes it’s rewarding as well. His favorite projects are the headscratchers that have stumped customers and technicians alike. He also enjoys the opportunity to work on a wide variety of equipment of all ages. His co-workers and the family atmosphere are what he enjoys most about Platte Valley.

“It’s fun to be here at PVE. It’s a laid-back place with low drama,” Dave said. “If you come in in a bad mood, I guarantee within an hour, you’ll be in a good mood because of the people working around you.”

Dave’s positive attitude and focus on the customer earned him the nomination for this month’s Pride of Platte Valley.

“Dave Nelson is fun to work with and easy going,” said Andy Arps, Wahoo service manager. “He can look at the problem – no matter the complexity - assess the situation and come up with a plan of attack. And then takes action.”

“Dave has proven himself as an experienced service technician that will accept whatever is asked of him,” said Ross Miller, Wahoo store lead. “He is always willing to provide a helping hand, is a team player, and gets along well with everyone.”

Outside of work, Dave enjoys team roping, haying, raising cattle, golfing, and spending time with his wife, Alyssa, raising their two children.

Congratulations on your nomination as Wahoo’s Pride of Platte Valley!
