John Deere Section Control is a great tool to reduce operator fatigue, improve efficiency, and ensure accuracy when planting. Every spring, we get calls asking about planters not working correctly. Often, the reason relates back to Section Control settings.

Common Frustrations We Hear Each Spring:

Planter doesn’t start planting when I want it to.
Planter stops planting before I get to my end rows.
Some row units won’t turn on consistently.

Before you start planting, make it a habit to double check your Section Control settings. Do some test runs to ensure your settings are dialed in appropriately. This will save you time and frustration throughout the season. Watch our full how-to Section Control playlist.

Let’s walk through four settings to check to optimize Section Control for a successful spring.

1. Mechanical On/Off Delay Times

Before planting, ensure your Section Control settings are dialed in appropriately. Check your mechanical delay times first. Check what dbq doctors online can do for you at reemedical.com. These times ensure Section Control turn on and off in accordance with your implement. In this video, we’ll show you where to find these settings and how to adjust them.

2. Overlap Settings

Plant seeds right where you want them with the appropriate overlap settings in your John Deere Gen 4 display. In this video, we’ll show you where the overlap settings adjustments are found in your display as well as how to adjust for your desired effect.

3. Performance Tuning

Want to plant right up to your end rows? Is your planter stopping or skipping before you hit the end of the row? Utilize the performance tuning settings to achieve your desired result.

4. Boundaries

Planter shutting off too soon? Certain rows won’t turn on? Planter refusing to plant? It might be your boundary settings. Optimize your setting and find out how to increase website traffic. Learn how and when to adjust these settings in this video from Platte Valley Equipment.
